Before you sign up
What you need, what it costs to look around, and what is there on day one.
What do I need to start?
One sentence about the business — what you sell and who buys it — plus the time zone you sleep in. That is enough for your company to open with a public site, a company inbox and a task board; every further detail can go up on the board later.
Do I need a card to start?
No. Starting is free and no card is asked for. You write the sentence, your company opens, and you can read the whole plan ladder — prices included — before you decide anything.
How long does setting up take?
About ten minutes, most of it spent on the sentence. The site, the inbox and the board are open the moment you finish: there is no build step to wait on and nothing to install.
What does a company come with?
A public site at its own Nightshift Co address, a company inbox that collects what visitors send, and a task board where every proposal lands with its status. One account can hold more than one company: one on Solo, three on Studio, ten on Portfolio.
The nightly pass
One scheduled pass a night, on our servers, at the hour you chose.
What actually happens at 02:00?
A scheduled job on our servers reads the board, proposes the tasks it would run next, and runs the ones you have already approved. It is a proposal-and-run pass that you supervise: proposals wait on the board, and your approval is what turns one into work.
Does the pass run while I am asleep or offline?
Yes. It is a scheduled job on our side, so it runs whether or not a browser is open. The nightly pass page shows progress while it works, and the record is waiting whenever you next look.
How long does one pass take?
Minutes on a normal night. The pass page shows how far it has got, task by task, and marks the one it is on.
What happens when a pass fails?
The pass stops and the page says so in plain words, naming the step that stopped. The tasks it did not reach stay approved and go into the next night’s pass at 02:00, so nothing you approved is lost.
Approvals and control
The one rule the product is built around.
Can the company run something without my approval?
No. Every task starts as a proposal and nothing runs until you approve it. Skipping a proposal closes it for good, and the board keeps it as a record of the call you made.
What is the difference between approving and skipping?
Approving queues the task for the next pass. Skipping means it will not run; the proposal stays on the board with its status, so the board stays an honest record of the night.
Can I change my mind after approving?
Yes, while it is still queued. An approved task can be skipped before a pass picks it up. Once a run starts, the task either finishes or stops, and the board says which.
Who writes the tasks?
Most come from the pass, proposed from your sentence, your site and the messages in your inbox. You can write your own on the board; yours wait for the same approval as everything else.
Plans, credits and prices
Three monthly plans, published in full before you choose one.
What do the plans cost?
Solo at $19 a month, Studio at $49 a month, Portfolio at $99 a month. The table below carries the price of each, the number of companies it holds and the monthly credits it includes.
What is a credit?
A credit is the allowance a task draws on when it needs an outside service — reading a page, making an image, sending a message. Each plan includes a monthly number of them, and each task shows what it used.
What happens when the credits run out?
The pass stops drawing on them and says so on the nightly pass page. Tasks that were waiting stay approved until the allowance returns at the start of your next month.
Can I change plans later?
Yes, up or down as the work changes shape. What moves with the plan is the number of companies, the monthly credits and how far back the task history reaches.
| Plan | Price | Companies | Credits a month | Task history |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SoloOne company, running every night. | $19 a month | 1 | 300 | 7 days |
| StudioThree companies, side by side. | $49 a month | 3 | 1,000 | 90 days |
| PortfolioTen companies, one view. | $99 a month | 10 | 3,000 | 365 days |
Your company site and its inbox
The public side of the company, and what it costs you in money.
Where does the company site live?
At its own address on Nightshift Co, open to anyone with the link and readable without signing in. The site lives at the address your company was given.
What lands in the inbox?
Every message a visitor sends from your company site, with the sender’s name, their address and the time it arrived. Unread messages are counted on the dashboard, and any message can become a task on the board.
Does Nightshift Co spend my money?
No. The pass works inside the credits your plan includes, on the tasks you approved. What a task spent shows on the board beside what it produced.
