Nightshift Co · Getting started
From one sentence to a company that works the night.
Ten minutes to set up, then the pass takes over the small hours. This guide is the whole path: what to have ready, the five steps, and what your first nightly pass looks like from the other side.
Before you start
Three things worth having ready. Everything else can wait until the board is open.
- A name for the company — the one you would put on a door.
- One sentence about what you sell and who buys it.
- The time zone you actually sleep in; the pass follows it.
Starting is free, no card is asked for, and nothing runs until you approve it.
Five steps to your first pass
Describe the business
Name the company and write the sentence: what you sell, who buys it, and what makes it different. Then pick the time zone the nightly pass should follow.
Your company opens
A public site at its own address, a company inbox that collects what visitors send, and a task board that starts empty and waits for the first pass.
The pass proposes the work
At 02:00 in your time zone the scheduled pass reads the board and proposes the tasks it would run next. Nothing runs during this step — the proposals simply land.
You approve or skip
Each proposal waits for you on the task board. Approve the ones worth running, skip the rest, and the approvals go into the next pass.
The morning shows the record
What ran, what it produced and what it spent, with anything that stopped written out in plain words next to the step that failed.
Your first nightly pass
The pass proposes first and runs second. That order is the whole design.
At 02:00 in your company’s time zone, the scheduled pass reads the board and proposes the tasks it would run next. The proposals land on the task board; none of them runs on its own.
You approve the ones worth running and skip the rest. The next pass runs the approvals and leaves a record of each result: what it produced, what it spent and anything that stopped.
While a pass is working, the nightly pass page shows progress and the tasks it has reached. If it stops early, the page says which step stopped, and the tasks it did not reach stay approved for the following night.
